Well it’s heartening to see someones reading these intros. After my whinge last issue regarding the lack of multis on the market, it suddenly seems to be raining em’! (Yes, nothing whatsoever to do with my intro but let me dream a little!) Lots of new boats are at last emerging and some very nice ones at that. While listings are growing as some obviously decide the mortgage needs taming, so too is the stable of buyers. A little (ahem) economic downturn doesn’t appear to be keeping peoples dreams at bay. As Anita Farine of Elan Yachts commented. “In times like these people tend to cling more tenaciously to their visions for the future, pursuing them more vigorously when things in society go somewhat pear shaped!” Could it also be that a free, self sufficient lifestyle becomes more of a priority? As a newcomer to the Multi Market, Anita has been delighted with the response last issue saying in an early email “ The ad is working fantastically, I'm getting lots of enquiries and calls, it's great.” Jeff Rowe of Australiawide is happy with whats happening, selling out of his last batch of multis at a furious rate, but he has a very nice Elite at hand. The Cat Company continues to power ahead while private sellers at the right price may find a quick sale is imminent. (John Connells Cirro is still available – wot the? I haven’t sighted the boat but as a recently surveyed, fast, proven tri at the right price, it’s a bit of a mystery. And no, Johns not a “sale psycho” but a very affable laid back multi enthusiast. Give him a call!) To close on a completely unrelated note – but then again, maybe not - as who wouldn’t love to have experienced what Jeff Wall (ex Paxos) has aboard his various multihulls? It’s got to be an inspiration to all. Here’s part of a recent letter he sent me... “ I’m wondering if an article about our trip down the Med in the 1970s on an Iriquois cat, (designed by Rod Mcalpine Downie) would be of interest to readers? We met some interesting characters in the multihull game in the UK – Mike McMullen, Dick Newick etc along with Tristan Jones – he lived with us for three months in London in the Summer of ’75. I still have his original hand drawn chart of Lake Titicaca hanging on the wall....” The mind boggles as to who the “etc’ icons may have been?! Of interest???! As I responded, “Get writing! It’ll save us asking you one hundred and one questions and waiting too long for the answers!” (Keep an eye out for Jeffs story on his recent Mulit Med charter cruise in an issue soon.) Well, a happy summer to all and to all a Cool Yule. Hope you sell or find a multi for Xmas! Have a good one...Jo
